Northwestern University Gate and University Hall - original pen and ink with watercolor wash by Rhoda Sterling of Evanston

I started my college life at Northwestern. Every day, hundreds of students pass through the gate to the campus and walk beside University Hall—one of the original buildings from 1869, which now houses the English Department. Northwestern represents the old and the new, traditional and forward-looking vistas. I wanted to capture this historic side of the university in my first campus painting.
